PENTATONE THE FIRST TEN YEARS This is a box with 10 SA-CDs to celebrate PentaTone's 10th anniversary. From each year of PentaTone's existence we have taken one SA-CD. Not necessarily the best sellers and award winners, but a fine selection presenting as much as possible all the artists PentaTone is/has been working with. As a bonus we have added a sampler SA-CD with tracks of other PentaTone albums (so the box includes 11 SA-CDs). On this sampler you will also find surround sound effects and test tones (which enable to adjust the position of the speakers of a HiFi set into the ideal position).

10 years down the line Although I find it hard to believe, PentaTone has been around for 10 years now. Hard to believe, because it still feels like yesterday that I was invited to a surround sound demo at the Polyhymnia studio, organized by my former Philips Classics colleagues, Dirk van Dijk and Job Maarse. The PentaTone brand is now firmly established within the market, and has become synonymous for quality, both artistic and technical. We have won numerous awards in most fields and countries. Although the market for classical CDs has been shrinking during the past 10 years, the demand for PentaTone recordings has increased. We have survived the bankruptcy of one of our distributors, the bankruptcy of Tower Records, and have not fallen victim to the credit crunch. PentaTone is here to stay. In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our label, we have selected 10 albums to include in an anniversary box: one dating from each year of our existence. Not necessarily the bestsellers and award-winners, but a selection that provides as true a representation as possible of the artists with whom we have worked during these past 10 years. It has proven difficult to do justice to all of them, but we have done our best. As a bonus CD, we have added a compilation containing tracks from a number of albums not included in the selection. At the end of this compilation album, there are surround sound effects and test tones that will enable you to optimize the position of your speakers in order to further enhance your enjoyment of your PentaTone SA-CDs. “I was only aware of some of this music….I’m pleased PentaTone has released this disc and it’s a valuable addition to my collection. I am sure if you give it a listen, you’ll agree.”
Richard S. Foster, HiFi+Magazine
“This is a splendid concert, brimming with vigorous rhythms and varied orchestral colours, played with impeccable ensemble and élan by the NDA. The imposing acoustic of Maassluis’ Grote Kerk resounds with the splendour of trumpets and drums, but the sharply focussed detail of the sound-stage is never compromised and front to back perspective is superbly reproduced, especially in MC…. Strongly recommended!”
John Miller, SA-CD.net
“I strongly recommend this disc as it reveals how many treasures are still waiting to be rediscovered. There is really no excuse for recording the same pieces time and again. Musicians with curious and enterprising minds like Simon Murphy and his colleagues will always be able to find first-rate music which is unjustly neglected. May many discs of this kind follow in the years to come.”
Johan van Veen, Musica Dei donum
“These composers are said to balance visionary 18th century enlightened elegance with the raw energy of being the “rock ‘n roll” of its day!`
John Sunier, Audiophile Audition
